To create an annual ballooning event that raises endowed scholarship money for Iowa Western students, and provides educational activiites, while promoting IWCC.
History:
To create an annual ballooning event that raises endowed scholarship money for Iowa Western students while promoting Iowa Western Community College and our surrounding communities.
1999 1st year -- 20 balloonists $1,200 for scholarships 3,000 attendees great weather
2000 2nd year -- 25 balloonists $8,900 for scholarships rained out
2001 3rd year -- 33 balloonists $30,000 for scholarships 6,000 attendees good weather
2002 4th year -- 31 balloonists $25,000 for scholarships over 6,000 attendees 1/2 rained out
2003 5th year -- 33 balloonists $14,000 for scholarships over 9,000+ attendees, ideal weather
2004 6th year -- 34 balloonists $11,000 for scholarships over 14,000 attendees
Marketing:
Newspaper insert/ads were expanded to include all of Southwest Iowa and the meto area - - - with a circulation of 176,8000
67 different sponsors have been involved
