Apply for Financial Aid
STEP 1: Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and must be completed in order for the college to determine your eligibility for grants, loans, and college work study. You will need to know Iowa Western’s federal school code: 004598. Priority consideration is given to applicants who submit all information by May 1 for the following fall term (November 1 for the following spring term).
STEP 2: Review the Student Aid Report (SAR).
The Department of Education will provide you with a summary of your FAFSA information called a Student Aid Report (SAR). This report summarizes the financial information you entered on the FAFSA and is used by the college to determine how much federal and state aid to offer you. The SAR will be emailed to you by the Department of Education if you provided an email address. If no email is available, your SAR will be mailed to you within three weeks.
STEP 3: Submit All Required Forms and Documentation.
In order to determine eligibility, the Financial Aid Office may be required to request forms and documentation from you, such as federal tax transcripts, in order to determine eligibility. You will be notified in writing if you are required to submit such documentation. Be sure to remit these to the Financial Aid Office in a timely manner.
STEP 4: Review your Financial Aid Award Notification.
Your Award Notification is prepared and sent to you by the Iowa Western Financial Aid Office. The Award Notification will indicate all programs for which you are eligible, including all grants and loans.
STEP 5: Complete and submit loan requirements.
