About the Program

Are you interested in the hospitality industry but want to learn about and understand the industry as a global market? If so, then you may want to enroll in Iowa Western’s Lodging and Hospitality Management program.

In this two-year program you will gain a global look at motels, hotels, resorts, and clubs from a management viewpoint. You will study some of today’s hottest hospitality management issues, including diversity, retention, total quality management (TQM), harassment, leadership, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Classes will also introduce you to business ethics, the manager’s responsibilities regarding meetings and conventions, human resources, marketing, sales, franchising, and more.

You will gain hands-on experience by working in an internship in the hospitality industry, including hotels, casinos, resorts, and bed and breakfasts. The program is designed to help you enhance your analytical and communication skills.

Career Information

This program is designed for students intending to enter the workforce upon completion of this two-year degree. This program will prepare you to enter the world of hotel and motel management. Some job responsibilities in this field may include supervision of front office and housekeeping staff, interviewing and evaluating prospective employees, and also assisting with training of new employees.
