Math

Program Information

The Mathematics program prepares students to transfer to four-year schools to continue their studies.  The program produces graduates who:

  • Are self-directed learners, critical thinkers and problem solvers.
  • Have demonstrated the ability to calculate and apply integrals.
  • Have demonstrated the ability to analyze and compute infinite series and sequences.
  • Have used vectors to solve application problems.
  • Can use descriptive and theoretical statistical techniques.

Math Competitions

The Math Department sponsors an annual Math Day Quiz Bowl competition in April for area high school students.
2013 Winners:  11th/12th grade Bowl – Large Schools

  • Gold – Omaha Central Team 1
  • Silver – Omaha North Team 1
  • Bronze – Westside

11th/12th grade Bowl – Small Schools

  • Gold – Duchesne Academy Team 1
  • Silver – Duchesne Academy Team 2
  • Bronze – Archbishop Bergen Team 2

9th/10th grade Bowl – Large Schools

  • Gold – Millard South Team 1
  • Silver – Omaha North Team 1

COMPASS Overview

COMPASS (COMputer-adaptive Placement Assessment and Support Services) is a placement tool designed to measure your current skills in writing, reading, and math. Throughout the assessment, COMPASS will adapt to your abilities. Questions may increase or decrease in difficulty depending on how previous questions were answered.  For more information, click the link below.

For samples of Numerical Skills, Prealgebra, and Algebra questions, click on the link below.  Scores in these areas determine placement into College Preparatory Math, College Algebra, Statistics, Trigonometry, PreCalculus, Math for Liberal Arts and Finite Math.
