EMT- I (Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate)

Prerequisites:
  • Must hold a course completion card in CPR at the healthcare level prior to the program and maintain their certification for the duration of the program
  • Must be currently certified as an IOWA EMT-B and maintain that certification for the duration of the program and show proof of that certification
  • Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Must be physically able to perform all functions of an EMT-I
  • Must submit a copy of their high school diploma
  • Must provide documentation of immunizations including a current TB test
  • Must submit to a drug screen
  • Must provide their own stethoscope
Course Content:

The EMT-I (1985) program is designed to provide the next higher level of care from the EMT-B for pre-hospital care.hese individuals will provide more in depth care, assessment, and treatment of the sick and injured patient.Upon completion of this program the student will be able to perform all the skills of the First Responder/ EMT-B and the following:

  • A more in depth assessment of the sick or injured patient
  • Cardiac monitoring (single lead non-interpretive)
  • Semi-automated defibrillation
  • Initiation of peripheral IV sights
  • Administration of IV crystalloid fluids
  • Venous blood sampling-obtaining (by protocol)
  • Carrying Epi-pens for administration (by protocol)
  • A more in depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Automated transcutaneous pacing
  • More in depth understanding of general Pharmacology, proper medical terms, and abbreviations
  • Perform the required number of patient contacts, rote skills, and assessments to meet the National DOT Standards
  • Pass all written evaluations and practical skills stations during the didactic portion of the class with the required percentages.

Upon successful completion of the above written and practical skills and objectives the student will be eligible to take the National Registry practical and written exam.

Program length is approximately 60 hours of didactic/classroom time in addition to the required clinical and field experiences.

Fee $475 due at time of registration (Money order/cashier's check/credit card/exact cash only - no personal checks accepted). Does not include written or practical exam fees. $25 non refundable fee required at registration.
If billed to your service, a letter indicating financial responsibility must be submitted before the first night of class.

Credit 10 CEU's for EMT's and Iowa Nurses (IBN #6)
