This is an exciting program that will enhance your knowledge or train the beginner and will raise your career to the next level. Certified Professional Coders are in great demand and is a fast growing career option. You will need to be sure to have current editions of the ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS available for the class—remember, these are required at your expense. If you wish to sit for the certification exam, there is an additional charge and it will be given after the course is completed.
The PMCC provides training in a classroom setting in CPT and ICD-9 coding, billing and reimbursement for medical services. It is in chapter format that allows flexible implementation of the curriculum utilizing student workbooks and your coding tools, CPT, ICD-9 and HCPCS. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be able to sit for the CPC examination through the AAPC. The course includes medical terminology and anatomy and covers the following:
- An introduction to procedural coding, diagnostic (ICD-9) coding and medical necessity, E/M services, documentation standards, emergency department, insurance clarifications and terminology.
- Surgical coding issues, guidelines and terminology, modifiers, specific guidelines for surgical coding, how to code operative reports, billing and reimbursement issues.
- Integumentary system, soft tissues, musculoskeletal, chiropractic, podiatry, oral-maxillofacial, respiratory and cardiology systems.
- Hemic and lymphatic systems, digestive, urology, OB/GYN, maternity, endocrine, general surgery, nervous system, ophthalmology and ENT codes.
- Anesthesiology, radiology, pathology and medicine codes.
When taking this class, it is helpful to have knowledge of Human Anatomy & Physiology or medical terminology.
Credit: 10 CEUs for Iowa Nurses/100 Contact Hours for Medical Assistants and Nebraska Nurses
Fees: $1890 includes tuition for entire course, two textbookds, one workbook, handouts, and first year student AAPC dues Fee must accompany registration. Money order/cashier’s check/credit card only—no personal checks accepted
Cancellation Policy: $50 charge for all withdrawals prior to 24 hours before class starts. Less than 24 hours withdrawal: Tuition refunded less $200. "No shows" or withdrawal by 2nd day of class: 50% of tuition. No refunds after 2nd day of class.
