Blast Learning Specialist-Part-time


Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher. Prefer experience working with special education high school students or experience tutoring high school students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of academic study skills, tutoring policies and guidelines, plus basic knowledge of computer applications is preferred, but will train in these areas. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills needed. Ability to relate and work with special populations.


Job Duties:
JOB SUMMARY: Assist the BLAST Coordinator in the implementation of all goals and objectives as outlined by Individual Education Plan (IEP). Tutor individuals or small groups of students, helping them to become more independent, confident and self-directed learners.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides learning applications to students after initial instruction has been provided by the college instructor.

2. Communicates learning strategies to students in a positive manner; communicates instructional progress of students to BLAST Coordinator as needed.

3. Recognize and respond appropriately to the needs of diverse students. Make referrals to or consult with the BLAST Coordinator.

4. Visits classes or consults with instructors as necessary to stay current with course expectations.

5. Manages the BLAST lab and ensures that the lab is equipped with the appropriate software and supplies necessary for BLAST students.

6. Maintain daily records of lab attendance, student progress, and compiles reports as needed.

7. Provide the logistics for the Spring IEP meetings as far as time, location, and inviting the program chair/Dean.

8. Conduct Spring meetings with BLAST students who have completed their first year at IWCC to identify possible activities that would help incoming first year BLAST students become successful college students.

9. Refer BLAST students to other campus resources to ensure both academic and personal growth and success.

10. Conduct intervention workshops to develop the necessary skills to make BLAST students independent learners.

11. Assist in the planning and implementation of BLAST orientations for all new BLAST students and their families each summer.

12. Perform other duties as assigned by the BLAST Coordinator. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift 40 pounds, walk long distances, and possess a valid driver’s license to drive to area high schools. 

This is a part-time position, 20-30 hours per week, with flexible scheduling and summer months off. Start date August 4, 2008.

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for coordinating all recruiting efforts, including high schools visits and college fairs. Represents the college at all assigned schools, fairs, tours, and other recruiting venues. Communicates with prospective students and their families regularly through phone calls, written communiqué, and various electronic means. Works with other staff members as the team lead to plan and present campus activities to enhance recruiting and admissions. Requires a willingness to work late evenings and weekend hours periodically throughout the year. Must hold a valid driver’s license and be insurable to drive college vehicles.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Primarily responsible for planning, promoting, and facilitating group visit days and Reiver Days.

2. Primarily responsible for managing student bloggers and the blogging website.

3. Primarily responsible for coordinating the campus tour process for prospective students, including tour scheduling, and communication before and after. Also responsible for hiring, training, and managing student ambassadors.

4. Primarily responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating all recruiting visits, college fairs, and displays.

5. Represents the college by traveling to high schools, businesses and recruitment fairs.

6. Acts as the recruiting team lead, and provides regular training for Admissions Advisors on recruiting tactics. Assists in planning and executing bi-annual retreats for the recruiting staff.

7. Responsible for coordinating telephone recruiting as well as other forms of proactive and follow-up contact with prospective students. Assists in motivating all Admissions Advisors to initiate and maintain contact with prospects.

8. Explores new tactics and ideas to enhance recruiting and relates information to the Director of Admissions.

9. Communicates with prospective students and their families regularly through phone calls, written communiqué, and various electronic means.

10. Assists in planning, designing, and providing initial information for prospective students.

11. Assists in the academic advising of students by helping them select a career choice and schedule classes. Advises potential students regarding admissions requirements and expectations.

About the Position: The instructor will be responsible for course instruction and classroom management in an ACF certified program. Duties include, but are not limited to, teaching classroom and laboratory sessions, curriculum development/restructuring, committee assignments, student academic advising, student recruitment and responsibility for materials and supplies. Also responsible for quality and quantity of applicable food items in accordance with H.A.C.C.P. and State of Iowa Department of Health regulations. Qualifications:
