Academic Support Coordinator
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field is required; Masters Degree preferred. Instructional or training experience required, preferably college level. Supervisory experience is preferred. Working with and coordinating instructional support for diverse populations in a post-secondary setting helpful.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of instructional strategies for multiple learning styles and ability to relate to all types of students is necessary. Strong interpersonal communication, problem solving, public speaking, and organizational skills required. Knowledge of remedial, developmental, and adult education methods and techniques is strongly preferred.
Job Duties:
JOB SUMMARY:
Directs the full range of academic support services needed to assist students to achieve their educational goals, including tutoring and lab assistance, tutorial software, learning skills advising, and the general operation of the Academic Support Center and the staffing support, auxiliary services, and student programming for the Cyber Library.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop partnerships with academic deans and faculty to determine student needs and provide content-specific academic support to students.
2. Research best practices in learning assistance and determine appropriateness and feasibility for the college.
3. Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of the academic support available at the college and initiate any needed modifications.
4. Collaborate with the Learning Resources Specialist to plan programming that promotes and explains services available through the Cyber Library and the Academic Support Center, as well as study skill strategies and basic research techniques.
5. Develop annual goals and objectives to improve student services and support provided by the Academic Support Center and the Cyber Library, tracking and reporting progress as needed.
6. Manage the Academic Support Center by scheduling and promoting peer tutoring, tracking usage, and facilitating a supportive environment conducive to studying, academic assistance, and student networking.
7. Provide academic support to students utilizing the Academic Support Center, including general tutoring and writing assistance.
8. Supervise the Cyber Library Technology Specialist and provide direction and leadership in direct academic and technical support to students, faculty, and staff.
9. Collaborate with the Learning Resources to train student workers who provide “concierge services” to students at the Cyber Library front desk.
10. Hire, schedule, and supervise all peer tutors, academic mentors, and student staff for the Cyber Library.
11. Develop a comprehensive and integrated training for peer tutors, academic mentors, and Cyber Library student workers to facilitate the most efficient and effective team of cross-trained student staff.
12. Meet with peer tutors and academic mentors regularly to determine progress, evaluate their academic impact, and resolve tutoring or academic related issues.
13. Assist with developing and enforcing policies that ensure users are respectful of the learning environment, facilities, and equipment.
14. Assist with the day to day organization, security, and appearance of the Academic Support Center and Cyber Library to ensure that it is a welcoming study environment for students, faculty, and staff.
15. Responsible for ensuring the appropriate staff and student worker coverage of the Academic Support Center and the Cyber Library during hours of operation.
16. Provide presentations on topics, such as study skills workshops, learning styles advising, goal setting, and stress/time management.
17. Regularly publicizes offerings and availability of services.
18. Represent the Academic Support Center and Cyber Library on various committees, projects, and college initiatives.
19. Perform other duties as assigned.

Adjunct ESL Instructor (Summer and Fall 2012 terms)
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree related to ESL/EFL/Education required. ESL experience teaching in a college or high school setting. Knowledge of another language and sensitivity to cultural diversity preferred.

Adjunct Nursing Instructor-Medical/Surgical and/or OB/GYN

Part-time position for a Pharmacy Technician Adjunct in Health Education at Iowa Western Community College. This position is in the Continuing Health Education Office assists the teaching of the Pharmacy Technician.

RESIDENCE LIFE COORDINATOR
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in counseling, education, communication or related field preferred.
Experience:
Experience with adolescent or college age students preferably in a college setting. Demonstrated organizational, supervisory and administrative skills. Demonstrated ability in developing and implementing education programming or training. Ability to train, develop and program with college students in a group living situation. Effective communication skills, as well as, experience in working with diverse populations. Must hold a valid drivers license and be insurable to drive college vehicles.
Other Requirements:
The Residence Life Coordinator is required to live in the apartment provided on-site. Share on-duty responsibilities as assigned. Will include day, evening, weekend and holiday hours. Compensation includes an on-campus apartment with free utilities, local phone, and cable television as well as an Ethernet connection.
Job Duties:
JOB SUMMARY:
The Residence Life Coordinator is directly responsible for the total administration of their assigned community. This includes developing and implementing the residence life program in their community. Residence Life Coordinators are responsible for creating a community that would allow students to grow collectively and individually. The primary goal of this position is to establish an environment that is conducive to the academic and non-academic development of students.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for one of the following Residence Life functions: 1) Recruitment and Selection 2) Educational Guidance 3) Training and Development
2. Supervise Resident Assistants as they provide educational and social programs that enhance the personal development of students in their assigned community.
3. Manage the community’s occupancy information, equipment inventory, mailroom/front desk operation, key inventory control, check-in and checkout processes and maintenance/custodial needs.
Coordinating intra-community moves and transfers. Providing tours of community as needed.
4. Creating a safe, welcoming environment, as well as, communicating with police and security regarding the presence of community safety concerns.
5. Provide initial guidance, crisis/conflict management and mediation assistance for students as needed. Refer residents to and consult with appropriate resource agencies within the college community in a timely fashion.
6. Supervise resident conduct matters to assure that policy violations are being confronted and addressed appropriately. Follow through in upholding sanctions and normalizing community relations.
7. Maintain ongoing written and verbal communication with immediate supervisor, the office of residential life and all relevant parties. Complete various reports in a timely manner as required. Respond to questions and concerns raised by parents of residential students.
8. Actively foster an environment within residence life which reflects a positive community and which contributes to students’ personal and academic success.
9. Coordinator is responsible for hiring, training and evaluation of all student staff members working in their assigned communities, including regularly scheduled staff meetings.
10. Serve on appropriate committees on campus to facilitate communication, knowledge, and professional development.
11. Serve as an educator by developing both formal and informal relationships with students.
