EMT & Paramedic

Paramedics and EMTs are counted on daily to provide life-saving attention in emergency situations. This is a challenging, yet highly rewarding field that you can become part of after completing Iowa Western's Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic program. Students completing the courses learn the fundamentals of caring for patients of traumatic and medical emergencies, as well as non-emergency situations. Those who complete the course successfully become eligible to sit for the National Registry of EMT's certification examination to become a certified emergency medical provider in the state of Iowa.

This program will prepare you for the quick reaction and competent care required for any emergency. There are job opportunities with private ambulance services, fire departments, air ambulances, helicopter services and independent third-service rescue squad departments.

Iowa Western's program offers many hands-on experiences that will prepare you for immediate entry into this field. EMS courses take place in Iowa Western's state of the art high fidelity simulation center, consisting of mock hospital rooms, emergency rooms, an apartment setting, and a new paramedic lab.
