IV Certification Courses for the LPN

IV Therapy for Iowa LPN

IV certification courses approved by Iowa Board of Nursing, Provider #6.

You will receive a certificate of completion in the mail once the classroom and clinical portions are complete. Clinical paperwork must be turned in to the Course Coordinator before a certificate can be issued. Please click on this link Agency Agreement to print and take to your supervisor for confirmation of expectations for the clinical portion of this course. 

LPN the Basics – NE LPN

Approved by the State of Nebraska and meets LB 88 requirements.

This 8-hour lecture meets the didactic portion for Nebraska LB 88 – legal aspects, central and peripheral IV lines.

An 8-hour course with hands-on skills for Nebraska LPNs who have taken the LPN IV Basics 8 Hour Didactic class.  (Course ID# HLTH 130-03) This skills portion is scheduled according to demand. 

EMS

EMS Refresher Course

An EMS refresher course may be offered at the college or may be tailored to your own specific department needs if requested. The refresher covers the National content for NREMT renewal, covering both didactic and skills requirements.

EMS-Instructor

This course is designed to train experienced pre-hospital providers to provide instruction to students enrolled in EMS education programs. Topics covered include instructor roles and responsibilities, student learning styles, lesson plans, presentation skills, evaluation methods, motivation, teaching psychomotor skills, and legal and ethical issues associated with the instruction. The course will be interactive and will include the opportunity to provide didactic and practical student education in a simulated classroom experience.

Emergency Medical Responder

Formerly known as First Responder. This class usually meets two nights per week for eight weeks. The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course emphasizes the development of student skills in patient assessment and examination, recognition of signs and symptoms regarding illness or injury, and proper procedures when rendering basic emergency care.

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the overall role and responsibilities of an Emergency Medical Responder in performing both emergency medical care and operational aspects of the profession.  In addition to the classroom and practical portions of the course, the student will complete a sixteen-hour internship in an emergency department.

Certified Nurse Aide Instructor Course

Prepares the Registered Nurse to teach the Certified Nurse Aide Course to students. This course is designed to meet the requirements set by OBRA “87” for preparing instructors to teach the state-approved 75 Hour Nurse Aide curriculum. 

Requirements
  • RN with minimum of two years nursing experience, with a minimum of one year of nursing experience in Long Term Care.
  • RN with two years nursing experience or working for a Program Coordinator.
    who has the one year of Long Term Care experience.
  • RN who has experience in training adults or supervising Nurse Aides.
  • RN who has a current and unrestricted Iowa RN License.
  • All participants will need a resume and proof of current licensure the first day of class, if not sent in advance.

Patient Intake and Billing

This noncredit certificate program will give an introduction to the role of Patient Access/Registration
and coding and billing in a healthcare setting. Topics of discussion will include but are not limited to medical
terminology, basic computer skills, insurance and funding regulations, how to recognize and utilize medical coding,
healthcare safety, HIPAA, workplace skills, and proper communication. The student will participate in a

Refunds: You may cancel your registration 48 business hours prior to the start of most classes and receive a 100% refund with the exception of the non-refundable processing fee. If contacting outside Iowa Western‘s Community College Continuing Education Department business hours, leave a voicemail and or send the department an email. Iowa Western Continuing Education is not responsible for refunds if contact is not pursued via voicemail and or email. In compliance with the IWCC policy, refunds will only be produced in the form of a check. A check will be issued within 14 business days after the refund is admitted to the customer. Refund will be sent to the customer’s address that is labeled on file. Certain program restrictions may apply. Contact Continuing Education for details at ce@iwcc.edu. Cancellations: Iowa Western reserves the right to cancel any class where difficulties arise in staffing or scheduling or where minimum enrollment is not achieved. A full refund will be issued for all canceled classes. Transfers/Withdrawals: Transfers may be subject to a $25.00 transfer fee. Non-attendance for a class does not constitute a withdrawal and refunds are not issued for nonattendance. Transfers may be made up to two full business days (unless otherwise noted in the class information) prior to the start date of the class. After that time, transfers will not be permitted and no refund will be issued.
