Environmental Training

Iowa Western offers many new and innovative training programs to prepare workers for the emerging green environmental field. These trainings are focused on sustainable energy, environmental remediation, local food production, sustainable building, low impact development and eco-system preservation/restoration. These programs offer an array of preparatory classroom lessons, hands-on lab and field experiences for better understanding.

I-Weatherize

Iowa Western through the Iowa SESP grant is currently able to offer FREE weatherization training. Department of Energy Weatherization Installer and Crew Chief trainings are currently being offered. Classes are held at Iowa Western and throughout Southwest Iowa through a mobile educational trailer.

Dream to Farm: Micro-Farming Program

Do you have aspirations to be a local food producer? This 14-week class will help you create a comprehensive business plan and will also cover the basics of farming techniques, soils, animal husbandry, irrigation and integrated pest and disease management. Classroom work will be supplemented with hands-on labs, field trips and relationship building with mentors. Follow up support after class completion will be available to help ensure the long-term success of your farm. Fee $39

Leed 205: Preparing for Leed Green Associate Exam

This online course examines green design, construction, maintenance and operations concepts that are fundamental to the LEED green building rating system. Learn about LEED and the intents and concepts behind the various LEED credits. This course explores green building strategies and synergies, as well as LEED metrics and referenced standards. This online course prepares you for the LEED Green Associate exam. Students will have the option to meet with an instructor on 6/3/13 at 5:30 to get comfortable with the online learning system. After that anytime during the course, the instructor is available for support both in person and online. Fee $300
