Course Equivalency Guides
The IWCC Transfer Course Equivalency Guides are designed to help advisors and students identify Iowa Western courses that are the equivalent to those of regional four-year institutions.
There are two ways that courses transfer from IWCC. The first is as a "direct equivalent" to a four year institution. This means that a course taken at Iowa Western matches exactly with a course from another institution.
The second way courses transfer is as "non-equivalent". When a course at IWCC does not match a particular course exactly, students may receive elective credits for that course.
It is important to remember that developmental courses typically do not transfer; for example, Basic Math, College Prep Reading, and Elements of Writing are considered developmental and therefore tend not to transfer. The rule of thumb is if the number starts with a 0 (Eng 013), it will not transfer.
NOTE: The four–year institution has the final say on how classes transfer and are applied to your major. You should be in contact with your institution to ensure transferability.
