One of the most important benefits to being a part of the Student Support Services program is the assistance you get from TRiO Advisors. Individualized Academic Advising is provided by the TRIO/SSS staff to support our students in making sound academic and personal decisions. The primary goal for our advisors is to guide each student towards the accomplishment of their academic goal. The Student Support Services program achieves this by assigning each participant to a specific TRiO advisor who will assist students with an array of advising services.
TRiO/SSS participants are able to benefit from specialized advising services such as:
- Guidance in major planning and course selection
- Providing an explanation of degree requirements
- Transfer Preparation
- Degree Evaluations
- Financial Aid Assistance
- Career Exploration
- Assistance with Adding/Dropping courses
- Connections to other campus resources
- Monitoring academic progress
Additionally, SSS participants are expected to meet regularly with their assigned TRiO advisor to ask questions, communicate their concerns and to inform their advisor of their academic progress.
Transfer Advising
TRiO/SSS staff is available to help facilitate the process of transferring to a 4-yr institution. We offer resources and services such as individual transfer advising, college reference materials, access to computers to do research and workshops on how to choose a four-year college. Another terrific feature of TRiO/SSS is the campus tours. Throughout the year, Trio students can take advantage of free SSS sponsored trips to various colleges in the area.
