The Wise Approach

It is apparent that community colleges have substantially altered the world of academia for both traditional and nontraditional students alike by continuing to provide a myriad of opportunities for students to begin or advance their education at a price they can afford. At Iowa Western Community College, we believe in providing a quality education at an affordable price.

  • National trends. Four out of 10 college-bound high school graduates begin their college education at a community college, which saves them thousands of dollars on their education. This number continues to increase.

  • Average cost. The average cost for tuition and fees per semester to attend a community college is less than $2,361. That total rises to nearly $6,185 at a university and nearly $24,000 at a private school. Clearly, the cost of Tuition and Fees at Iowa Western put an education within reach for every student.

  • No hidden fees. Iowa Western offers many events and services to students at no additional cost, including academic tutoring, involvement in student activities, participation in your graduation ceremony, admission to athletic events, and even parking.

  • Financial assistance. At Iowa Western, we understand that financing a college education can be a stressful undertaking. That’s why we offer Financial Aid opportunities to all our students. In fact, over 77% of Iowa Western students received financial aid last year, including grants (money you don’t need to pay back) and loans (money you borrow).

  • Scholarship opportunities. Iowa Western awards over $1 million in Scholarships every year, and when you consider how low tuition is to begin with as well as the fact that the money is going to a fairly small pool of only about 3,000 students, that figure becomes even more staggering.

  • Transfer to a four-year. Iowa Western has Articulation Agreements with a number of major universities, making the transfer of credits an easy process. This means that getting the first two years of your education at Iowa Western and then transferring to college or university is a cost effective approach to attaining a degree.
