Admission Requirements

Admission to the college is granted to all individuals who are high school graduates or the equivalent.  We encourage you to review our Getting Started Checklist for specific requirements for admission.

Program Information

The Marketing - Lodging and Hospitality Management option program is broad-based in design and includes studies in tourism, hotel management and hotel operations.  The program combines  the basic principles of hotel and hospitality management and a well rounded framework of business classes.  Students will develop their skills through internship experience.

Students who successfully complete this program should be able to:

  • Implement the elements, design, and purposes of marketing plan.
  • Analyze the influence of external factors on marketing.
  • Recognize the customer-oriented nature of marketing and characteristics, motivations, and behavior of consumers.
  • Analyze the elements of the marketing mix, their interrelationships and how they are used in the marketing process.
  • Secure employment in the lodging and hospitality industry.
Articulation/Transfer Opportunities

Iowa Western Community College has articulation agreements with various four-year schools, local and state.

Career Opportunities

This program prepares students for management positions in hotels, convention bureaus, resorts and other hospitality and recreational facilities.  Opportunities for advancement often depend upon the size of the company, and the employee's experience and motivation.

Student Organization

Iowa Western Community College has a very active marketing club on campus.  The students take a yearly trip to examine current marketing trends.  Past trips have included:  Chicago, New York City, Minneapolis, St. Louis and Colorado Springs.  The club performs community service projects throughout the year.
