Admission Requirements:
Admission to the college is granted to all individuals who are high school graduates or the equivalent. Students must have a 2.5 GPA to begin the second year of the program.

Program Information:
The Sports Medicine major is designed for students who will pursue a career in a sports injury or exercise-related health field. Upon completion, students are encouraged to transfer and complete a bachelors degree program in their area of interest. The curriculum is designed to meet the general requirements during the first two years of college, with an emphasis on hands-on training.
Athletic Training students complete a practicum each semester in the athletic training room on campus under the direct supervision of a Certified Athletic Trainer. Athletic Training students will work with the varsity athletes at Iowa Western and area high schools, giving medical coverage at scheduled
practices and games.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Certified athletic trainers are health care professionals who specialize in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity. As part of a complete health care team, the certified athletic trainer works under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other health care professionals, athletics administrators, coaches and parents.
Program Mission Statement:
The student athletic training program will produce an experience for each student athletic trainer to develop the skills necessary to continue their academic career and become a Certified Athletic Trainer. This experience will be accomplished by assisting the student-athlete in physical and psychological restoration of injury through education and medical treatment.
Facility:
The Athletic Training Room is a brand-new, 2500 sq. ft. facility located within the Kanesville building. It includes treatment and rehabilitation areas, taping and bracing tables, and a hydrotherapy room.
