New Student Orientation (NSO)

NSO is for students entering Iowa Western Community College. We know that college is an exciting and challenging time in your life, and our Orientation program is designed to help make the transition to college easier for you. Last year 840 students attended NSO and 87% of those students rated NSO as a good experience.

At NSO:
  • You will meet other incoming students.

  • You will have the opportunity to interact with faculty, staff and current students.

  • You will learn about academic support services, student involvement and recreation opportunities, and general tips on how to make the most of your college experience at Iowa Western.

  • You will be able to ask last-minute question, and buy books or other necessities from the bookstore

  • You will learn necessary success strategies from our current students.

  • You will receive necessary college information including the student planner and handbook.

NSO Registration:
  1. Register for classes with an admissions advisor.

  2. Make an NSO Reservation

  3. Attend NSO

We are all very excited to serve you as you become acquainted with IWCC and look forward to seeing you at NSO. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if you have any questions.

Program Day Orientations

Some programs have requested incoming freshmen attend certain orientations to meet with their advisor. Program sessions will take place from 1:30 to 2:30pm on the date list. Please register for your NSO session on the date requested by your advisor.

Art - Friday, August 8

Theatre - Thursday, July 31 or Thursday, August 7, if you cannot attend either session please contact Kat Bagby-Coate at kbagby@iwcc.edu or 712-325-3409

Culinary Arts - Thursday, July 31 - this will be your opportunity to order supplies and uniforms

Management & Human Resources/Applied Business - Traditional age students (under 23 years old) - Thursday, July 31; Non-traditional age students (23+) - please attend the JUMP Orientation on Tuesday, August 5

Sign Language Interpreting - Friday, August 8

Marketing (Fashion, Lodging & Hospitality, Management, Sales, Sports) - Thursday, July 31

JUMP, Non-Traditional Student orientation

JUMP is an orientation workshop for new non-traditional students. In addition to receiving important information about our campus, participants at JUMP learn about advising, study strategies, and time management. They also interact with current non-traditional students who share their experiences and offer tips for success.This orientation will have a slightly different itinerary.
