No Increase in Taxes
This bond will NOT increase property taxes. As other bonds are expiring, this new bond will simply replace them, maintaining the current tax rate while funding critical educational improvements.
Meeting Industry Needs
The new Transportation and Logistics facility will enable Iowa Western to train more students in high-demand fields such as diesel technology, automotive technology, CDL, and logistics. These programs are vital for meeting the workforce needs of our local and regional industries. Studies have shown there is a projected increase in freight delivery by 108% in Nebraska and 97% in Iowa by 2050.
Addressing Regional Job Growth
The relocation of existing programs to the new facility will free up space on campus, allowing Iowa Western to expand other critical programs like construction technology, HVAC, and electrical engineering; driving economic growth and helping ensure a steady pipeline of much-needed skilled workers in Southwest Iowa.
Expanding High School Career & Technical Education
The bond will fund the expansion of dual enrollment career and technical courses for high school students across the college’s service area, providing more students with access to hands-on training that provides a head start to higher education or leads directly to well-paying jobs. High school students enrolled in dual credit programs typically save approximately $6,000 dollars in college tuition costs
Supporting Our Economy
The bond will support the future of Iowa Western Community College and the stability of regional economies. Iowa Western is the largest provider of career and technical education in the region and is one of the region’s largest employers.
