About the Program
Ask those who have made it big in the broadcast industry where they got their start, and you’ll discover it was at a university or community college. You, too, can get your feet wet by enrolling in Iowa Western’s Electronic Media Studies: Radio/Television/Video program of study. Graduates earn an Associate of Arts degree and gain real-world experience in broadcasting.
Iowa Western is one of a select few community colleges with a powerful 100,000-watt FM radio station, 89.7 The River, as well as our very own cable television station, CBTV-17. Our students get valuable experience on working on and off air by assisting in the production of radio and television broadcasts. With both radio and TV stations right here on campus, you’ll learn using some of the best technology available.
This program consists of a balanced mix of hands-on lab work and interesting classroom time. Many graduates of this program jump right into entry-level broadcast positions, while others continue to pursue a bachelor’s degree for higher paying jobs.
This program is designed for students intending to transfer on to a four-year institution upon completion of this two-year degree. Graduates are able to explore a multitude of career options, including audio and video production, promotions, commercial copy writing, news writing, broadcast sales and management, and on-air production.
