The demand for personal and physical fitness trainers is growing, and you can study for a career in this rewarding field by completing Iowa Western’s Health and Human Performance program. Successful completion of this program will award an Associate of Science degree designed to transfer to a four-year institution. You will also be eligible to become certified as a personal trainer.
This program focuses on the fundamental knowledge and skills in:
- Physical fitness assessment
- First-aid practices
- Health risk appraisal
- Principles of leisure and recreation
Iowa Western’s facilities are top-notch and provide you with the best environment possible to reach your career goals. Few community colleges offer similar programs that end in certification by the National Council on Strength and Fitness as a personal trainer. You’ll carry the potential to immediately enter the workforce as a personal trainer under this program.
This program is designed for students who either intend to enter the workforce or transfer on to a four-year institution upon completion of this two-year degree. Graduates are prepared for a career as a personal trainer in a health club or corporate wellness program, in private consultation, and in other physical activity enterprises. Personal trainers are not only concerned with the supervision of exercises and fitness routines, but also play a multifaceted role of an advisor, supervisor, and evaluator of several activities taking place during the routines of clients. Some students also choose to apply their credits towards a bachelor’s degree in physical education and teach at the elementary or secondary level.
