Program Information

Students working towards the Songwriting and Rap Production Certificate typically intend to create professional recordings in a home studio environment, although some individuals may choose to continue their studies by entering the Audio Engineering AAS degree program.

Students in this program will learn about all aspects of music production, focusing on the fundamentals of analog and digital audio and span live music reinforcement, digital audio recording, critique and analysis of recorded music, and the mixing and mastering process as it applies to create and record music in a home studio.

Students will be introduced to fundamental music terminology and analysis of instrumentation, form, and production techniques as they apply to popular musical genres. Students will work in state-of-the-art facilities, including a fully outfitted recording studio, a state of the art production suite and a Pro Tools computer lab.  Through the creation of original recordings students will learn professional techniques that can be applied to any recording environment; from laptops to home studios to high-end recording studios.

What will you do

This program is designed for students intending to produce quality computer based recordings without needing to enter professional recording studios.  Graduates are prepared to refine, record and mix original music with a computer and a minimum of additional gear.  Students will be prepared to act as a live audio engineer for public performance of their work.
