About the Program

 

The Solar Installation Technician program of study will teach students operational skills and a basic understanding of photovoltaic (solar electric), solar thermal (water/air/heating/effects of wind), and passive solar equipment. Graduates of this program are awarded a certificate.

Career Information

Solar installers assemble, install, or maintain solar systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. May include measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar modules. This is one of the fastest green job industries in the nation.  Students should have a degree or work experience in construction, electrical, or plumbing.

  • Explain the operation of core systems within solar energy systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic and mechanical solar energy systems.
  • Maintain electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical solar energy systems.
