About the Program
Few professions offer as many opportunities as those in management or human resources. More and more organizations see the need for HR personnel, and every company has managers. You could become one of these professionals by enrolling in Iowa Western’s Management and Human Resources degree program. In just two years, you can earn an Associate's degree and begin working immediately.
In this program, you will acquire the foundation needed for a wide range of careers by taking core courses in both management and human resources. To round out your skills, you will also study accounting, marketing, communication, business, and related topics.
This program is designed for students of all ages intending to enter the workforce upon completion of this two-year degree. This program will prepare you for a managerial or human resource position within your current organization or with a multitude of other companies. The demand for entry-level managers and human resources professionals continues to grow as our economy expands. Past graduates of this program have found rewarding jobs in a wide variety of businesses and industries.
Upon the successful completion of the program students will:
- Review theoretical concepts and practical applications of fundamental management principles.
- Describe basic techniques of supervising employees to accomplish organizational goals.
- Demonstrate steps of the training process and techniques of presenting workplace training.
- Interpret fundamental concepts of Total Quality Management and related topics.
- Identify techniques and tools used in managing human resources.
- Discuss fundamental concepts of the American legal system as they relate to the workplace and the individual.
- Practice basic steps and procedures of conducting labor-management relations in the unionized workplace.
- Generalize about employee compensation and benefits programs in the workplace.
- Demonstrate the use of job search, portfolio development, interview, and workplace success skills.
- Employ knowledge/skills/attitudes gained to successfully perform in a management/human resources internship.
