EPA Green Environmental Training
In October of 2012, Iowa Western received an EPA Workforce and Job Training grant to provide environmental and green training to unemployed and underemployed individuals of Council Bluffs and Omaha. Iowa Western's EPA Green Environmental Program is to provide relevant training to local and regional industry needs with the goal of protecting the environment, health and property. Iowa Western has worked in close collaboration with community partners including the City of Council Bluffs, Heartland Workforce Solutions, Iowa Workforce Development, Eastern Nebraska Community Action Partner, Heartland Family Service, North Omaha Contractors Alliance and B2 Environmental in development of this program.
Applicants of Iowa Western's Green Environmental Training Program will complete an intensive 200 hour training focused on both environmental remediation trainings and new green job opportunities. This training is at no cost to the participant. Individuals completing this program will be expected after training to find employment.
At the completion of this program trainees will earn federal certificates in:
- OSHA General
- OSHA Construction
- Lead Safe Renovator
Other regional and local topics and certifications include underground storage tanks, construction debris recycling, CPR/First Aid, storm water management and forklift operations.

Individuals who are interested in this program must fill out an application and go through an interview process. Applicants will have to submit to a drug test sometime before the program. 15-20 individuals will be selected to attend each class session on a first come basis. Applicants who are unemployed or underemployed will have priority.
