TEAS Test FAQ’s

The ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) Assessment measures a student’s general knowledge in various content areas. Performance on the TEAS indicates a student’s readiness to begin a course of healthcare studies and is a predictive measure of success.
Students applying to the Practical Nursing program must take the TEAS assessment. Students must successfully pass the TEAS with a composite score of 58.7% or higher and complete all other admissions requirements in order to be eligible for admission to the Practical Nursing program. The assessment must be completed within three years of the student’s intended Practical Nursing program start term.
On Campus: Students can complete the TEAS Test in person at the Council Bluffs Campus Test Center located in the Welcome Center – Clark Hall or at any of the Iowa Western center locations. To schedule the TEAS on the Council Bluffs campus, please email testing@iwcc.edu. To schedule the TEAS at one of the center locations, students must contact the center directly.

Remotely: Students also have the option to take the test remotely at home. To schedule your test, please email testing@iwcc.edu. The test date requested must be schedule 48 hours in advance. In the email, you will need to include your full name, student ID number, email, phone number and test date/time.

The testing fee for the TEAS assessment is $65.00 for in-person and $70 for remote testing. The fee must be paid to Iowa Western prior to taking the assessment; all locations accept payment. Payment can be made by phone at 712-325-3225 or in person. Cost will go up $5/test after July 1, 2023.
Once the test is schedule, you will receiving a confirmation email with your test date and time, along with instructions for payment. Prior to the test date, students must have their ATI account created at www.atitesting.com. See our Student Account Set-Up Instructions for additional guidance.
Test preparation is available through LearningExpress. This resource can be accessed via the IWCC Library Page under the section titled Other Resources. For questions about this resource, please contact cyberlibrary@iwcc.edu.
Students must wait 30 days to re-take the TEAS and pay the assessment testing fee each time. The TEAS Examination is limited to a total of 3 attempts. Students who have three failed attempts on the TEAS must wait one year to retest and reapply to the program.
The TEAS assessment is timed. Students will have a total of 209 minutes to complete a total of 170 questions in four sections. Each section is timed individually.
All examinees are required to bring photo identification, which can be a driver’s license. Students may not bring their own calculator or scratch paper, they must use the scratch paper and computer-based calculator that is provided. Students will also need to bring the username and password they created after the test was scheduled.
Due to the time duration, the TEAS assessment is only offered at certain times on the Council Bluffs campus. Space is limited to three examinees during each time slot. The times for the Council Bluffs campus are listed below. To find out when the TEAS is offered at the center locations, students must contact the centers directly. *The availability listed below is subject to change during high and low test center traffic times such as finals week and summer.

On camps and remote testing hours:

Tuesday: 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM
Wednesday: 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM
Thursday: 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM
Friday: 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM, and 9:30 AM

Due to limited staffing, we cannot offer afternoon testing time for in-person request. Remote request for a 1:00 PM test time will be considered on a case by case basis. To schedule your test, please email testing@iwcc.edu. The test date requested must be schedule 48 hours in advance. In the email, you will need to include your full name, student ID number, email, phone number and test date/time.
