Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP)

PEPP represents a comprehensive source of prehospital medical information for the emergent care of infants and children. Developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, PEPP is an exciting program designed specifically to teach prehospital professionals how to better assess and manage ill or injured children. PEPP is a comprehensive, innovative, and highly visual program with case-based lectures, live action video, hands-on skill stations and small group scenarios. Open to EMS Providers, RNs, PAs, and Physicians.

The ALS course is a two-day course that is geared towards EMT-Intermediates and Paramedics. PALS providers may recertify their PALS and earn a PEPP certificate by taking this course.  14 CEHs

The BLS course is a one-day course that is geared towards the First Responder and EMT-Basic.  8 CEHs

Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS)

The Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) course was designed, because AHA recognized a gap in the number of healthcare providers who see pediatric patients, but do not take PALS because it is too advanced. The main focus of PEARS is prevention, and specifically, the assessment, recognition and stabilization of pediatric victims at risk of severe cardiopulmonary distress. Through unique learning tools, such as video-based simulation, providers can see and hear critically ill children with whom they do not typically come in contact, equipping them to recognize the symptoms of pediatric victims, and thus begin stabilization prior to arrest. The course is video based with instructor-led discussion and simulation. Students participate in, practice and complete various skills and learning stations and are required to pass skills tests, as well as a written test. Open to EMS Providers, RNs, PAs, and Physicians.  8 CEHs

Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)

The completely redesigned American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support course is based on new science evidence from the 2015 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC and a new teaching methodology. The goal of the PALS course is to aid the pediatric healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes. Skills taught include recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; the systematic approach to pediatric assessment; effective respiratory management; defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion; intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration; and effective resuscitation team dynamics. Open to EMS Providers, RNs, PAs, and Physicians.  16 CEHs

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

This course has been designed to teach an evidence based approach to resuscitation of the newborn. The causes, prevention, and management of mild to severe neonatal asphyxia are carefully explained so that health professionals may develop optimal knowledge and skill in resuscitation. The Neonatal Resuscitation Program is an educational program that introduces the concepts and basic skills of neonatal resuscitation. Open to Paramedics, RNs, PAs, and Physicians.  9 CEHs

Pediatric ECG Recognition – Online

Learn™ Rhythm Pediatric is a self-directed learning program designed for the general healthcare provider who needs basic ECG rhythm recognition skills, in addition to PALS students who do poorly on the PALS Precourse Self-Assessment or want to review basic rhythm recognition skills. Open to EMS Providers, RNs, PAs, and Physicians.

Trauma Care

Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)

The PHTLS Provider course is designed to be an intensive 16-20 hour experience. It is available to all levels of prehospital care providers, and programs are typically attended by EMTs and Paramedics but it is also open to RNs, PAs and Physicians.

The course is scenario-based, with lectures and interactive skills station components meant to enhance the prehospital care providers’ knowledge, and further develop the critical thinking skills required to effectively treat the trauma patient in the field.16 CEHs

Airway Management

The American Heart Association Airway Management Course is a new and unique program specifically designed to give students the opportunity to learn, practice and demonstrate many airway skills used in resuscitation. Healthcare providers whose occupation or volunteer activities require airway management skills, in addition to professionals in the field of resuscitation and airway management such as scientists, educators, researchers and manufacturers of medical devices may find the course beneficial. The learning model for this course includes video-guided instructions, skills practice, and testing.
