COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – Iowa Western Community College is celebrating the grand opening of the Dr. John and Jean Marshall Softball and Baseball Complex this Saturday, April 8. The newly renovated complex features significant upgrades to both the baseball and softball fields including; new turf, press boxes, outfield walls, scoreboards and a plaza area. The grand opening begins at 10:30 am with a welcome and brief program, followed by ceremonial first pitches. At 12:00pm the Iowa Western Reivers softball and baseball teams take on the Blackhawks of Southeastern Community College.
A generous gift from Dr. John and Jean Marshall made the complex upgrades possible. The Marshalls are long-time supporters of Iowa Western and Dr. John Marshall currently serves on the college Board of Trustees and the Iowa Western Foundation Board. This is the second facility named for the Marshalls on the Council Bluffs campus, as they also contributed a naming gift to the Dr. John and Jean Marshall Wellness Center which opened in 2019. “The Dr. John and Jean Marshall complex provides the opportunity for both Iowa Western and other area baseball and softball programs to practice and play in a top-notch facility,” said Iowa Western President Dr. Dan Kinney. “We are grateful for the support from the Marshalls and excited for the official grand opening.”
