COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA — Iowa Western Community College hosted a special ceremony at its Aviation Facility to honor the legacy of alumnus Cody Christopher Mason with the inaugural presentation of the Cody C. Mason Aviation Scholarship.
The scholarship, established by Cody’s sister Hollie Mason and his father Robert Mason, honors Cody’s life, career, and passion for aviation. A 1998 graduate of Iowa Western’s Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program, Cody built a remarkable 26-year career in aviation, holding roles from mechanic to Aviation Safety Inspector for the Federal Aviation Administration. Cody was remembered for his work ethic, his generosity and his willingness to share his many talents with family and friends.
The first recipient of the Cody C. Mason Aviation Scholarship is Dylan Pirnie, a second-year student in Iowa Western’s AMT program. Dylan was selected by the program’s faculty for demonstrating the strong work ethic, commitment, and academic excellence that Cody exemplified throughout his life.
Both Hollie Mason and Robert Mason attended the presentation, personally recognizing Dylan and sharing stories of Cody’s impact on the aviation field and the people around him. “Cody set a high standard” said Robert Mason, “this scholarship hopefully inspires students that are here in the program today”.
The Cody C. Mason Aviation Scholarship will continue to support deserving students in Iowa Western’s AMT program in the years ahead, helping to ensure that Cody’s legacy lives on through the next generation of aviation professionals.
