Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, Iowa Western publishes its Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASR) by October 1 of each year. The report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by IWCC, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. Stop Campus Hazing Act
In compliance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act, Iowa Western has included Hazing as a policy violation in the Student Code of Conduct and Employee Code of Conduct. Individuals alleged to have committed acts of hazing will be investigated under the proper procedure per their status with Iowa Western. Reports of hazing that allege students as respondents can be made by submitting an incident report to Student Life and Success. Reports of hazing that allege employees as respondents can be made by emailing hrdept@iwcc.edu. All tracking of hazing will be maintained by Student Life and Success for inclusion in the annual Campus Hazing Transparency Report.
Furthermore, Iowa Western Community College will provide annual hazing prevention and awareness training and programs to the campus community. This includes making online training for students and employees available and incorporating hazing into orientation materials for students and employees. All training and programs will be informed by research and evidence-based practices.
Iowa Western Hazing Definition
Any intentional, knowing, or reckless act committed by a person (whether individually or in concert with other persons) against another person or persons regardless of the
willingness of such other person or persons to participate in activities that endangers the physical health or safety of a student for the purpose of initiation, admission into, affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in any organization including but not limited to, extracurricular, intramural, athletic, academic, or social group operating in connection to the college is strictly prohibited. This policy is in accordance with Iowa State Law, § 708.10, and the Stop Campus Hazing Act.

Drug Free Schools and Communities Act
It is the policy of Iowa Western to comply with the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act of 1989. This includes publishing a biennial report, providing annual notice to employees and students, providing on-going prevention and awareness training and programs, and ensuring a drug-free workplace for students and staff. It shall be unlawful to possess, use or distribute illicit drugs and alcohol by students or employees on College property or as part of any College activity, except for sanctioned events where alcohol has been approved by the college President. The laws of the State of Iowa pertaining to the possession and use of illicit drugs and alcoholic beverages on public property shall be followed.
Biennial Report
Health Risks
Substance abuse may result in a wide array of serious health and behavioral problems and has both long and short-term effects on the body and the mind.
The Substance Abuse for Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) provides evidence-based information on the risks associated with substance abuse. Iowa Western recommends students and employees review these risks.
Treatment Programs
Student Outreach and Support (SOS) provides education and prevention programming to students and are available on a confidential basis to assist students with substance abuse assessment, evaluation and referrals for treatment. SOS can be reached at sos@iwcc.edu or by submitting a CARE referral.
Employees struggling with substance abuse can utilize the Iowa Western Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Employees can access information on ROC.
Any member of the College community that is experiencing symptoms associated with their own or someone else’s alcohol or drug use is encouraged to seek help.
Community Standards
Iowa Western has adopted policies regarding substance use for students and employees. Student policies can be found in the Student Handbook, and employee policies can be found in the Administrative Policy Manual.
Students and employees violating these policies will be processed using the appropriate disciplinary procedures. Additionally, violators of these policies may be reported to proper authorities for legal action or possible arrest by law enforcement officials for apparent or suspected violation of local, state, or federal laws.
Disciplinary sanctions utilized by Iowa Western may include but are not limited to the following:
Reprimand: Written censure by the College.
Disciplinary Probation: A warning indicating that further violations may result in more severe sanctions such as suspension.
Education or Service: Assignment of educational or community/college service opportunities, classes, or projects.
Suspension of Rights or Privileges: An elastic penalty which may impose limitations or restrictions to fit the case.
Eviction from Campus Housing: Eviction from the privilege of living in campus housing facilities may also include restrictions or denial of visiting privileges.
Suspension from the College: Suspension can be imposed in such a manner that a student can be dismissed from a class, specific number of classes, program, classes that take place in a specific physical location, student organization, or activity of the College.
Expulsion from the College: Once expelled from the College, the student may not at any time be considered for readmission.
Termination of Employment: Once employment is terminated, the individual is not eligible for future employment with Iowa Western.
