International Student Admissions

Interested in studying in the U.S.? Follow the steps below to apply to Iowa Western and receive your Form I-20 for an F-1 student visa.


How to Apply – International Students

Important: All required documents are submitted through your application portal. We do not accept international admissions documents by email.

Step 1 – Apply Online

  • Complete the free online application
  • Select International Student as your student type
  • Use the same name as shown on your passport

Step 2 – Upload Required Documents

Important: Submit required documents in your application portal only
Email submissions are not accepted.

You must upload:

  • Passport copy
  • Financial Affidavit
  • Financial documents showing proof of funds
  • Academic transcripts (with English translation, if applicable)
  • English proficiency documentation (if required)
Transcript Requirements
  • Official transcripts are required
  • Documents must be submitted in the original language and include an English translation, if applicable

What Happens After You Apply

Your application and documents are reviewed based on your intended start term and processing timelines.

  • Once the review is complete, you’ll receive an admission decision by email
  • If admitted, your Form I-20 is sent electronically
  • You will then apply for your F-1 student visa.

What Happens After Acceptance

Once admitted, you’ll begin preparing for your arrival and first semester at Iowa Western.

  • Register for classes
  • Arrange housing
  • Plan travel to Council Bluffs, Iowa (via Omaha, Nebraska)
  • Attend New Student Orientation

Frequently Asked Questions

All required documents must be uploaded as supplemental items in your application portal. Email submissions are not accepted.
Meal plans begin on the Sunday before classes start.

If you arrive before that date, you will need to:

路 Make your own meal arrangements
路 Pay separately for meals prior to the start of your meal plan
Non-athlete students should contact International Admissions directly with questions about arrival, housing, or meals.
F-1 students may work:

路 On campus only
路 Up to 20 hours per week during the semester
Students may enter the U.S. up to 30 days before the program start date listed on their I-20.
