Coaching Authorization
Prerequisites
- Students must be at least 18 years old
- Students must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Required books are needed for pre-assignment one week prior to class
- Sports First Aid (Melinda Flegel 5th edition) and
- Successful Coaching (Rainer Martens 5th edition)
Mandatory Requirements
- Students must register no later than one week before the class begins
- There is one week of pre-homework. There is one week of mandatory 1-hour Zoom session with the instructor. There is also one week of post homework.
- Coursework completion includes a variety of training: CPR Training, Concussions, and a 55-hour training workshop
- State of Iowa application requires a background check and fingerprinting, to be discussed in class
About the Program
This is a 3-week online course. Iowa Western offers the required coursework to apply for the State of Iowa (BOEE) Coaching Authorization. This three-week online course fulfills the required coursework to apply for the State of Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) Coaching Authorization. The second week of class will include the first mandatory Zoom session with the instructor. During the third week, students will complete the remaining five Zoom sessions. All Zoom sessions run from 6:00–7:30 p.m. Successful completion of this course and the BOEE application process qualifies participants to serve as an assistant or head coach for any K–12 sport in Iowa.
