Substitute Authorization

About the Program

Iowa Western offers the State of Iowa (BOEE)approved, Substitute Authorization course. This training allows an individual to substitute for any class in K-12 institutions throughout the state of Iowa. This is a 2-day training offered one weekend per month, nearly every month.

Requirements Before Starting

Students must possess ONE of the following:
  • Current Paraeducator Certificate
  • 60 completed units of College Classes
  • A post-secondary degree of AA, AS, Bachelors, or higher
Mandatory requirements during the application process include:
  • a mandatory background check
  • mandatory reporter/Child Abuse training
  • fingerprinting
  • 2 hours of classroom practicum
